Frequently asked questions
1. Why infrared floor heating?
- It is affordable
- The heating foil is maintenance-free
- It lasts a long time +50 years
- Energy-efficient if properly installed with the correct subfloor/reflective foil
- Easy to combine with solar panels
- Easy to move
2. Is infrared harmful to the body?
The infrared radiation on the skin creates deep heat. The blood vessels in the underlying fatty tissue absorb this deep heat. The blood vessels widen and thus ensure better blood circulation in the fatty tissue. The fatty acids stored in the fat cells are dissolved and leave the body via the lymphatic system. In short, all kinds of waste products leave the body.
3. When to install underfloor heating?
Underfloor heating is usually purchased when someone is moving, renovating, or when they want to replace the floor. These are generally the moments to opt for underfloor heating.
Even for existing floors, it is not a problem in most situations. The floor is temporarily removed so that the heating film can be placed with a suitable subfloor. After this, the floor can be re-laid.
4. When to install ceiling heating?
Ceiling heating is the most ideal way of heating. There are minimal obstacles, and partly because of this, the heat radiation surface is increased. The infrared heating radiates from top to bottom (from a warm surface = ceiling, to a cold surface = floor).
By only insulating the floor and applying infrared ceiling heating, the most ideal comfort is created. The cold from the floor is eliminated by the reflective insulation.
5. When to install wall heating?
Wall heating can be used to create, among other things, a cuddle wall, but of course also to heat the house. Heat from the wall is a good way of heating; however, no cabinets or similar should be placed against this wall.
6. Under which floor can it be laid?
It is less suitable for tiles or flagstones.
7. What is the difference between radiant heat and convection heat?
Convection heat:
With convection heat, the cold air flows past the radiator. The air then becomes warm and rises. This heat flow is called convection. Convection heat feels good but also has disadvantages. Warm air has a lower density than cold air and therefore rises. This means that it quickly gets pleasantly warm at the top of the room, while it takes a long time before our cold feet are gone. Especially in a room with a high ceiling, we need a lot of energy to make it a bit comfortable with radiators.
Radiant heat:
With radiant heat, it is not the air that is heated. Instead, an object (an item or surface) radiates heat to other objects. The heat source can be a floor, wall, or ceiling, but also a separate panel. Infrared heating, in such a case, uses little energy because we don't have to heat the air. A basic temperature of 18 degrees is sufficient.
8. Which thermostat should I use for infrared floor heating?
Always use a thermostat with a floor sensor. The floor sensor ensures that the floor temperature can be limited to the desired temperature. Never connect the underfloor heating without a thermostat. Without a thermostat, the floor temperature will continue to rise. Most floors can handle a maximum temperature of 28 degrees.
