Making an infrared underfloor heating layout plan
Infrared underfloor heating ready-made custom service
We offer our customers a ready-made custom service. This way, both we and you know that the wiring to the film has been correctly installed. This saves you time during installation.
You only need to unroll the heating film and connect it to the thermostat.
Before ordering the heating film, it is important to select the correct lengths and widths of the heating film. For this, it is useful to create a laying plan for yourself.
Not good at this? We are happy to help you create a laying plan. You must provide a floor plan with the exact measurements.

Step 1 Sketch a laying plan on paper:
- Create a floor plan with the main dimensions of the room. Any obstacles such as a fireplace, built-in cupboard, kitchen unit, etc., must be mentioned on the floor plan.
- The underfloor heating film must not be installed under furniture that is closed at the bottom, such as solid cabinets, washing machines, or other equipment. The same applies to a rug. This can block heat dissipation, causing your floor to exceed its maximum temperature.
- You can draw the strips in your floor plan. Take the following points into account:
Dimensions:
The width of the film is 100, 75, and 50 cm.
The length of the strips can be ordered on the website in steps of 50 cm. For optimal coverage in your room, you can choose a slightly longer length. You can cut off the excess length in steps of 2 cm. This way you can create optimal coverage.
The film must be at least 5 cm away from the walls.
The film must under no circumstances be laid over each other! There must be a minimum distance of 1 cm!
Surface area:
Main heating:
For the best result, the surface area of the underfloor heating should be approximately 90% of the room surface. The higher the better!
Supplementary heating:
For supplementary heating, you can also heat a smaller part of the room. You can think of a heated floor only around the dining table, bed, sofa, or in the kitchen.
Power:
Take the wattage into account. This may not be more than 3500 Watt. Example: If you choose film type 100 Watt/m², you can lay a maximum of 35 m².
The total current must not exceed 16 Ampere. (the total power connected to one thermostat may therefore not exceed 3500 Watt in total).
If you want to heat a larger area than 35 m² with this heating film, the power must be distributed over several thermostats (and groups).
After calculating the total wattage of your underfloor heating, it will become clear whether a new group will need to be added to your meter cupboard. (Contact a local electrician for this).
- Indicate the lengths of each strip.
- Give each strip a letter, e.g., A, B, C, D, E, etc.
- Determine the required wiring length for each strip. Each strip will have its own cord length so that it can be connected together in a junction box near the thermostat using a terminal block. The wiring must not be laid under the heating film.
- Indicate where the thermostat should be placed. Do NOT place it directly in sunlight.
Please note that you place the thermostat near a wall socket. You can also lay a new power cable directly from the meter cupboard.
- Check that all information is on your laying plan.
Step 2 Ordering:
- You can select the correct size in our shop under heating film.
- If you have several film strips on your laying plan, you can add the different strips to your shopping cart per item.
Example: you have 5 strips on your laying plan.
strip A 100 cm wide, 600 cm long
strip B 100 cm wide, 600 cm long
strip C 100 cm wide, 600 cm long
strip D 75 cm wide, 400 cm long
strip E 50 cm wide, 400 cm long
You put each strip length separately in your shopping cart as follows:
(A, B, C) 3 x heating film 100 Watt/m² 100 cm wide 600 cm long
(D) 1 x heating film 100 Watt/m² 75 cm wide 400 cm long
(E) 1 x heating film 100 Watt/m² 50 cm wide 400 cm long
- Choose a thermostat of your choice from our collection of thermostats.
